Gentner Drummond Wants to Be Governor. His Record Says He Serves the Powerful.
Four cases. One pattern. Oklahoma's AG protects cops who beat elderly men, gives deals to domestic abusers, and declines to prosecute sexual assault. #Oklahoma
Gentner Drummond Wants to Be Governor. His Record Says He Serves the Powerful.
Gentner Drummond wants to be governor of Oklahoma. He wraps himself in the language of law and order, talks tough, waves the right political banners, and hopes voters do not look too closely at the fine print. That trick usually works until people start noticing a pattern. And Drummond has a pattern.
When ordinary Oklahomans need protection, they get lectures, excuses, and the cold shoulder. When powerful people need cover, Drummond seems to find a way.
The Voter Data Sellout
On March 24, 2026, Drummond settled a federal lawsuit and handed over Oklahoma's complete voter registration list to the DOJ. Full names, dates of birth, home addresses, driver's license numbers or last four SSN digits. Oklahoma Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax initially refused, citing state law. Drummond overruled him. The League of Women Voters and LULAC filed to intervene because Oklahoma's own attorney general would not defend Oklahomans' private information.
Drummond did not protect Oklahoma voters. He delivered them.
Law and Order for Thee
In October 2024, OKC Police Sgt. Joseph Gibson slammed 71-year-old Lich Vu to the ground during a non-injury traffic accident dispute. Vu sustained a brain bleed and broken bones, still relearning to walk, possible permanent cognitive damage.
Local DA Vicki Behenna filed aggravated assault charges. Drummond took the case away and dismissed it. He said: "I will not permit Oklahoma police officers to face criminal prosecution for conduct adhering to their training." He also said: "This unfortunate incident never would have occurred if Mr. Vu had kept his hands to himself."
The police department's own de-escalation instructors said the force was not reasonable. A 71-year-old grandfather recovering from a brain bleed received no criminal justice from Oklahoma's Attorney General. The Fraternal Order of Police received his gratitude.
A Sweetheart Deal for a Legislator
State Rep. Ty Burns (R-Morrison) allegedly tried to gouge his wife's eye out, breaking a blood vessel. Later chased his wife's former mother-in-law and their teenage daughter with his pickup truck down a dirt road. Drummond gave Burns a sweetheart deal instead of full prosecution.
A justice system that goes easy on the influential is not strong. It is corrupt.
Sexual Assault: A Convenient Decline
Drummond declined to prosecute a county commissioner accused of repeated sexual assault. A judge reviewing the same evidence granted a three-year protective order against the man. A judge found it serious enough for a protective order. Drummond found it convenient enough to decline.
The Pattern Is the Story
Handed voters' private data to feds after state officials raised legal concerns
Shielded a police sergeant after an elderly man suffered catastrophic injuries
Offered a sweetheart deal to a legislator accused of horrifying domestic violence
Declined to prosecute a commissioner accused of repeated sexual assault
Conservatism without moral courage is just branding. Drummond wants Oklahomans to see a sheriff. His record looks more like a gatekeeper for the establishment. His record is speaking plainly. And it is not speaking for you.
